Recently re-opened and under new management, the White Hart is a little
gem in the heart of Tudor London, right next door to the Bob Hope
Theatre.
The new landlords have obviously spent a lot of time
and money renovating this landmark pub and have done a cracking job.
Both the interior decor and beer garden (and even the washrooms) have
been fitted out to a high standard.
I was recently staying with
family in Eltham (during an Olympic test event at Royal Artillery
Barracks just up the road) and we popped in for an afternoon drink, and
to escape the rain! We were warmly greeted by Dave the manager who
showed us into the lounge area, furnished with leather armchairs and a
huge sofa. After looking over both the bar menu and restaurant menu we
decided to stay for food and moved into the restaurant side. My 8oz
sirloin steak was perfectly cooked and, at just £9.99, easily beats the
price and quality of a lot of other 'chain' pubs and Carveries. The cask
ales on tap included Bombardier and Greene King, good solid London
favourites :o)
We came back for more at the weekend and I look
forward to visiting again when I return for the Olympics. The White Hart
is a fantastic family friendly pub that London can be proud of, we
desperately need more like it. -

After reading the latest 5 star reviews on this place I was destined to give this place a try. Me and my fiancée were absolutely starving and looking forward to stuffing our bellies with a fresh British carvery.
What we were faced with however left a lot to be desired. £9.95 on a Sunday for what can only be described as really poor quality and insulting food considering the price. The beef was overcooked, the turkey was fatty and gristly, and the gammon was undercooked. To top that off everything else that I had was from a packet. Frozen Yorkshire puddings (which were chewy), frozen stuffing, frozen carrots, frozen broccoli(which was rock hard), and then the ultimate insult, frozen roast potatoes. There wasn't a lot of variety either, carrots and broccoli were the only traditional vegetables on offer and were poorly cooked as well as poorly seasoned.
I would like to stress that frozen products are in general used for convenience, which indicates a lazy approach to the food here. I will do nothing to further the reputation of a business which obviously lacks passion and drive to deliver value for money to their customers. There are other pubs and chains willing to serve good quality fresh food for less than the asking price at this place e.g. Crown carveries.
We will most certainly not be returning in the near future, 1 star is generous. -

My husband and I do not eat in eltham but we do now! If you want great food, great service and great atmosphere then pop to the White Hart in Eltham. The carvery is amazing and the homemade steak and ale pie is to die for! No small portions at the White Hart (my husband loves the mixed grill as well). They have just changed the menu and we have not had a chance to sample all of the menuyet! Congratulations to Dave, Simon, Alex and all the team on your first year at the White Hart. See you soon.
